Creative Conners Mouse Pads

For our exhibit at LDI this year, we made up mouse pads to give away during the show. Gareth and Royal worked up a bunch of engineering formulas appropriate for designing machines and added in the Spikemark keyboard shortcuts. We sent it to our LDI designer who worked it into the graphic shown here and we had them printed by Yourlogomousepads.com. We were running a little late with this project so Gareth and I had to carry them out to Las Vegas in our checked bags!

Anyway, if you want one, just email me at ian@creativeconners.com and I’ll mail one out to you, just make sure you send me your mailing address.

Pictures From LDI 2012

Well, we’re back from sunny Las Vegas, where Gareth and I spent 3 days exhibiting at the LDI 2012 conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It was a great time and we got to meet a lot of new people who have never seen our gear. We told people about the company, about our products, and we ran the machines for anyone who wanted to see them run. We handed out a lot of schwag, ate out a lot, and found out that there are a lot of theaters out there!

The conference was pretty good. It seems that this is the year of the LED, as most of the booths were pushing LED walls, LED spheres, LED moving lights, and LED suits. Some of the booths were just gigantic, and everyone we talked to was really friendly, especially the guys in the Gerriets booth, just down the aisle from us.

Anyway, a lot of people were really interested in the products, so hopefully we’ll see some sales from our exposure at LDI. Here are the photos I promised last week:

During the load-out, we got our knack boxes back pretty quick, but we had to wait another couple of hours for the other boxes:

That’s it. LDI 2012 was great and I wanted to thank everyone who wished us good luck. It worked!

LDI and Shop Move Pics

Royal and Tom had another good day moving all of our equipment to the new shop. Here’s a panorama of the new shop with all the stuff placed roughly where it goes:

Speaking of moving equipment, Gareth and I arrived in Las Vegas yesterday and started setting up our LDI booth. Here’s a good shot of Gareth with our official “Revolver Lifter” (It’s really just an engine hoist we ordered from Amazon):

Next time you see Gareth, ask him where his badge is.

We’ll finish putting the booth together today, and I’ll try to get some pics up on the blog tomorrow. LDI looks like it’s going to be huge this year – there’s a lot of vendors setting up in the hall, and they all brought their best gear. Don’t forget to come by booth #663 and say ‘Hi’ if you’re attending this year.

The Move

Here are some great shots of the shop move. Our new guy, Tom, spent the end of last week packing up everything in the shop and Royal and Tom spent all day today moving everything to the new shop, which is in the same building, so it’s a short trip for the truck.

Here’s our current shop this morning:

Here’s the shop after Royal and Tom moved a lot of the stuff out:

Here’s the guys moving stuff into the new shop:

I’ll put up some more pics of the move when we get back from LDI. If it goes well, Royal and Tom should have the whole move complete by then. And then we have to unpack…

Video Contest Winner!

Gareth and I are heading to Las Vegas for LDI on Wednesday, so we have ended our 2012 Video Contest, reviewed the entries and chosen a winner – Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, with their “You Spin Me Round” video! It’s a really great video, and you should check it out.

We ran the contest this year because we are going to run a loop of user-generated videos while we exhibit at LDI. We’ve finished the compilation video, and you can watch it below. It leads off, naturally, with MTC’s video and has 14 other user videos in it.

Thanks to everyone who sent in a video, and congrats to MTC!

Panorama Shots of the New Shop

Here are some great panoramas of the new shop. Royal and Tom are going to begin the move-in process next week, so we wanted to get some good “before” pics. You can click on the pictures for larger versions.¬†BTW, I used my iPhone’s new panorama mode in iOS 6 for the images.

We’ll put up more photos as the shop comes together.

Our New CNC Mill

Tormach crates

One of the many reasons that we are moving to a new shop is because we want to upgrade our machining capacity and we need more shop space for our new Tormach CNC mill. We chose the 1100 Series, and it came in last week. We had it delivered straight to the new shop and we’re going to get it setup as soon as the electrical work is done over there.

Our Product Engineer, Royal Marty, took a week out of our busy fall schedule to go to the Tormach headquarters in Wisconsin to attend a workshop and get up to speed on the machine, and also to make sure this was the right machine for us.

We’ll keep you posted on the progress with the mill, and hopefully post some pics of cool machined pieces.

Geffen Playhouse Video Using Watchout Integration

Our customers seem pretty stoked about the new Dataton Watchout integration feature that Gareth added into Spikemark a few weeks ago. Matthew Carleton at Geffen Playhouse just sent us a great video showing how they’re using it for their production of By The Way Meet Vera Stark. It’s pretty exciting for us to see people jumping right into a new feature like this.

If you’ve got your own videos, please send them our way. You can email me at ian@creativeconners.com.

UNCG Video Submittal

We got a great video from our good friend Chip Haas at University of North Carolina at Greensboro from their production of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. They’re running a scissor lift and a deck winch and don’t miss the tablet running Spikemark! Thanks Chip!
